I designed, developed, prototyped, and fabricated multiple generations of prototype devices to attach and position sensors (e.g. ultrasound probe) on a patient for short term (>72 hr) continuous monitoring. Early user requirements suggested a need for exacting positioning which led me to design a semi-spherical joystick like cam-actuated lock mechanism. Further user testing revealed that a simplified structure of a monolithic silicone frame could be just as practical while greatly reducing part count and manufacturing cost.
