I consulted/advised Illuminant Surgical’s hardware team during a rapid development cycle to prepare their device for first-in-human study at Mount Sinai. I primarily consulted on design for manufacturability, ergonomics, and human factors aspects.

Brian Nguyen, Hardware Lead at Illuminant Surgical had this to say about the engagement:

“Andrew was an invaluable resource in bringing our prototype to life within a few short months. He provided insight into materials; manufacturing and finishing processes; and assembly features that enabled our tiny team to create an impressive product. His greatest asset is his ability to hone in on the team's needs and work with their available resources. With a clear understanding of our time and cost constraints, Andrew would provide feedback and ideas that exponentially improved our learning curve without needing to make costly mistakes. Additionally, rather than spending $200,000 working with an outside design firm, Andrew was able to provide a high quality service at a fraction of the cost while helping us define a cohesive, user-friendly design language for our medical device.”

After that initial engagement, I was brought on as an Engineering Advisor and continue to work with the team as they develop their device.
