I designed, developed, prototyped, and fabricated a few variations of EVD (external ventricular drainage) trainers for Boston Children’s Hospital. Depending on which consumable module is used, the EVD trainers can be used for full CRM needs, including tasks like incising the scalp, creating a burr hole in the skull, nicking the dura and inserting a catheter and producing simulated cerebrospinal fluid. Simpler modules are used for training neurology department nurses on tasks like dealing with a leaking drain, suturing the scalp, and removing the catheter drains.
